Summary of plastic news in brief from the Nordic plastics industry in April and May

Line no. 3 ordered

Sweden: The manufacturer of PVC compound, Thevinyl AB, has invested in a third compounding extruder, which will arrive in October 2022. The line is significantly larger than the company's existing ones and will double the company's capacity.

 

15 MSEK investment

Sweden: Nexam Chemical, a manufacturer of compatibilizers and property-improving additives, is building an innovation center in southern Sweden. The center will have a pilot facility. Phase 1 will be completed in the autumn of 2022 and the final part in the spring of 2023.

 

Bovil now an SP company

Denmark: SP Group has entered into an agreement with the owner of Bovil ApS to buy the company in Odense, Denmark. The company specializes in CNC machining of plastics and has customers both in and outside Denmark.

 

Awaiting investment

Sweden: Trelleborg AB postpones the investment to build a rubber factory for the manufacture of sealing components outside of Moscow, which would be ready in Q3 2022.

 

New facilities

Denmark: Saxe Automation has for several months been working to build and complete its new premises in Randers, Denmark. The new office and production facility is now ready.

 

Trioworld in acquisition

Sweden: The British stretch film manufacturer Eurofilms has been acquired by Trioworld Group. The acquired company manufactures security solutions based on stretch film for customers in the food, beverage and industrial segments.

 

Bankruptcy

Sweden: After several years of survival attempts, the Swedish electric car company Uniti was declared bankrupt by the Lund District Court in mid-March.

 

Hexpol acquires Almaak

Sweden: The owners of Almaak International GmbH, a German specialist in technically advanced recycled compounds, have divested 70 percent of the company to Hexpol Group.

 

No more tire business

Sweden: Trelleborg Group has signed an agreement to divest its Wheel Systems business to Yokohama Rubber Company for EUR 2,100 million. The transaction is expected to be completed during the latter part of 2022.

 

Factory shutdown

Finland: Rani Plast has been forced to close its plant in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion. Production at the factory in Kaluga, Russia, is also at risk of closure as sanctions have stopped raw material imports.

 

Long composite bridge

Norway: The design of a composite bridge has gained momentum in Bergen. If is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge, which will lead people across the railway and Nesttunvegen in Bergen. The price tag is NOK 22 million, corresponding to EUR 22.5 million.

 

Affected by the war

Sweden: Plastic raw material distributors from Sweden say that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has pushed up prices on the raw material market. The price of plastics, and in particular the price of polyolefins, will be affected.

 

Strong cooperation

Sweden: The trade between Germany and Sweden has performed well despite the Corona crisis. According to trade statistics from the German Statistisches Bundesamt, Sweden strengthened its position during 2021 compared to the year before.
