Summary of plastic news in brief from the Nordic plastics industry

Opens factory in Slovakia

Sweden: The industrial group KB Components has entered into an agreement with CTPark to build a factory of 16,000 square meters in Slovakia. The factory enables the Group to continue its expansion in Central Europe.

A step out into Europe

Sweden: The rubber group National Sweden has established a production unit and associated warehouse in Gent, Belgium. At the unit, the company works with confectioning of soft materials such as sound absorbers and insulation for customers in automotive.  

Hexpol in Spanish acquisition

Sweden: The Group has acquired Unica for approx. EUR 48 million from a Spanish venture capital company. Unica works with rubber compounding in Spain and is a supplier to the automotive industry, construction and agriculture.

Acquisition broaden AnVa

Sweden: AnVa Industries has acquired Hordagruppen AB from the Lars and Sven Lejon. Hordagruppen works with injection molding, extrusion and blow molding in combination with automation solutions for e.g. assembly and finishing.

Better plastic recycling

Sweden: Nexam Chemical has launched the initiative Reactive Recycling, a toolbox of reactive additives that gives the customer increased opportunities to recycle plastic materials while maintaining its properties.

Collaboration on biomaterials

Sweden: Stora Enso and Improve Tec Hönö AB have entered a collaboration on the development of PLA-based biomaterials for a company in the packaging industry. Improve Tec manufactures renewable bioplastic granules and develops recipes with a special focus on bioplastic production.

Injured in factory fire

Denmark: Three factory were ravaged by fire in March at the Bewi Flamingo factory in Hobro. An employee at the factory was slightly injured as a result of smoke poisoning. The company manufactures facade insulation of EPS.

Axjo Group´s new family member

Sweden: The manufacturer of cable drums has acquired Perstorp Plastic Systems AB. The companies see great added value with the acquisition and state that they will invest and develop their offering and products.

Establish company in China

Denmark: Gibo Plast, a manufacturer of vacuum-formed plastic parts with a special focus on recyclable plastic, has opened a factory in China. At the factory, the company will produce large plastic articles through vacuum forming and CNC machining.

Chemical plastic recycling unit

Sweden: Green Ideas Group AB will establish a thermochemical pyrolysis plant in Bengtsfors. Initially, the company will build a demo plant for two to four tons of plastic. In 2023/24, it will change up to a volume of 24 tonnes per day. 

Norway loses production to Sweden

Norway: Husqvarna Group shuts down its Norwegian production in Sarpsborg and moves it home to Sweden. In Sarpsborg, Husqvarna mainly manufactures saw blades for Husqvarna's chainsaws.

Sustainable technology in place

Sweden: Rosti has invested in Roctools technology at its manufacturing facility in China. Rosti now sees opportunities to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40 percent.

Test of lignin-based bioplastic

Sweden: Emballator Innovation Center is testing RenCom's bio-based material Renol, in its plastic packaging. The material can be used in ratios up to 50 percent together with plastic, in applications such as films or injection molded molding.

Machine sales up

Sweden: 2021 will be a successful financial year for Europe's plastic and rubber machine manufacturers. This also applies to its distributors in Sweden. Anders Friborg, chairman of Plastmaskingruppen, says that machine sales are doing quite well in Sweden.

Directed equity issue

Sweden: The 3D printing company Wematter has carried out a directed equity issue. As a result, SEK 26 million was received during the spring. In addition, existing owners, management and the board have contributed a total of SEK 14 million.

Scherman takes the CEO-role

Sweden: Martin Scherman is CEO of Lagotech AB from April 2021. The company is a distributor in the plastics and chemical industry with extensive experience in polyurethane, release agents and industrial paints.
